BooBoo the apprentice
I am a very worried BooBoo. Sue has told me that I sit and do nothing all day and that it's time for me to get off my perch and get a job. Billy who does some painting round here says if I am a good BooBoo, I can be his apprentice! Billy has given me a pair of white overalls so that my feather don't get covered in paint and I would like some boots to cover my feet as I don't want paint of them either. When Billy paints, he uses lots of different size brushes and funny rollers. He also has all sorts of containers for his paint - I don't know if I am going to remember everything! When painting up high, he uses lots of ladders, I really love them. There are small size ladders, medium ladders and big tall ladders. Today, I used the ladder to climb on Sue's roof. When she walked past I said a big "Hello" in my deepest voice, oh she got a fright haha!
This is what I have learnt so far. Little brushes you use to go all around the edges of the walls and in little nooks and crannies, dipping the brush in the paint as you go. All the time Billy watches me and gets cross if any of the paint drips onto the floor! Then I dip a big roller in the paint and cover the wall, it is so easy and what fun. I just wish they would get a nice bright colour for the walls - perhaps the same colour as me! What I want to know now is, will I be paid for all this work?? When I ask Billy, who is Irish, he laughs in Irish and says something so fast in Irish that I don't understand it - and I daren't ask again!! I am a polite BooBoo..
Sue told me that I could be an apprentice and learn how to paint, well I have. I can use the brushes, use the roller, climb the ladders better then Billy as he has a bad knee, so I am much faster. My apprenticeship is over, BooBoo is now a painter and decorator. I have so many talents, how do I do it? I am hoping Billy will give me a large certificate to hang on my cage. I want a certificate as I am bit jealous. There is a great big, ugly certificate staring at me which has been given to all the volunteers by PetPlan saying how wonderful they all are!?! Well, I don't think they are, they just sit around and drink tea, eat cakes and they all moan about their joints! The only fit one here is Darryl. Wait until next week when I get my certificate, that'll show em....

Well done Boo Boo you can fly to Hereford and do some painting for me, I would buy you fruit cake and your favourite apples. But you mustn’t tell sue or she will want to share them. You would be able to meet my 2 african grey parrots called BJ and Boo Boo I think you have a lovely name. Keep your blogs going I love them. xx

Well its good to hear that you are gaining a new skill and finally making yourself useful about the place. However, I think that before you worry about getting paid there will be a matter of clearing your outstanding bill for food and lodgings since moving in… not to mention vets bills from when you got squished under the dog! All the humans at MCS do a great job, so a bit of a tea break now and then is the least they deserve!

Well BooBoo – you do know there’s a little matter of an exam before you finish your apprenticeship and can get paid? You also have to have lots of appraisals and things from Billy and he has to be ultra satisfied with all your work before he can sign you off? And then you do have to pay for all your work clothes and cleaning/ repair of same? It’s quite a business, this getting qualified, you know. And have you got all your proper insurance and things?

Well BooBoo another feather in your cap, so to speak. You are a very clever BooBoo and if you try and be good, your new log cabin (BooBoo’s Retreat) would be a perfect place to practice your new-found skills. However, after your behaviour last night…you know what I am talking about…poor Sue, you chased her from one end of the lounge to the other until she threatened to get the brush to you…did you squawk with glee….yes you did… maybe that new cabin will remain a dream for now..

Well done Boo Boo i’m glad you had fun learning to paint with brushes and a roller so you will be able to to decorate you’re log cabin when you get it keep dreaming you will get there one day.

Hey BooBoo, can you tell someone who has the required amount of agility in their joints (that’ll be Daryl I suppose since he is the only fit one) to please fix the lighting at night in the conservatory so we can see night-time webcam antics. Each night before I go to bed, I like to check in for fan-filled 10 minutes to admire your goings on (not the cats of course – only you – the REAL star of the show) – in particular your grooming and beak hiding when you snuggle into your feathers. Imagine my horror at not being able to see the star of the show the last few nights because the lighting was too dark! YIKES!! Not good for the Fan Club BooBoo… Better get screeching to someone with a bit of clout to sort it.
